Freezing weather costs southern China 8 billion yuan

Southern China has been hit by yet more freezing weather with fresh heavy snowfall and a sharp drop in temperatures. 17-million people have already been affected and the harsh conditions this winter have estimated to have cost local economy nearly eight billion yuan.

 

The regional weather center bureau has issued a blue blizzard alert for provinces including Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui and Zhejiang. A frost alert meanwhile has been issued for Guizhou, Yunan, Guangxi, Hunan, and Jiangxi. Greg Norman looks at the damage being caused and how residents are coping.

Icy roads and arctic temperatures have been the story of winter in southern China this year.
