The number of deaths in the UK attributed to seasonal flu has more than doubled in the past week to 254, up from 112 last week.
Of those confirmed deaths, Britain's Health Protection Agency say full information is available on 214 patients.
Of these, 195 have died with the H1N1 flu strain that spread worldwide in 2009 and 2010. The figures also show that more than eighty percent of the fatal cases were in clinical "at risk" groups for vaccination.
Experts warn the flu is still circulating in the UK and people in at-risk groups should get the seasonal flu vaccine.
