Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton Verbatim said: "Across the Middle East today we see people calling on government to be more open, more accountable, more democratic. They want a stronger voice in the their own affairs, they want to be treated fairly and with dignity…”

She said: “The responses of accountable government, an energetic and effective private economy and the civil society, which represents everything else that happens in the space between the government and the economy, holds the values that represent the aspirations of the people. If one of the legs of the stool is too short, or too tall, the stool is not stable and we've seen a lot of unstable stools that can now no longer hold the weight of their societies. What we hope to do is to bring these together in balance with you."
