Rescuers are being sent into quake-hit Yinjiang County in southwest China's Yunnan Province. At least 25 people have been confirmed dead and about 250 others wounded, while thousands are left homeless.

Over 3,000 homes have collapsed and twenty-two thousand others are in disrepair mainly in quake-hit Yinjiang county seat, near the Myanmar border.

Altogether seven aftershocks, measuring up to 4.7 degrees on the Richter scale, jolted the quake-prone area.

The tremor triggered a power outage but telecommunication services were not affected.

The majority of homes in Lameng Village - the epicenter - collapsed during the quake. However, no severe casualties were reported.

An emergency response plan has been launched by the Provincial Disaster Relief and Civil Affairs Authorities, with thousands of soldiers being dispatched to the region.

Over 120,000 people across Yinjiang county have been evacuated so far. Massive supplies, including tents, quilts and clothes from both the central and provincial governments are being handed out to local residents. Meanwhile, the central government has sent several teams to Yinjiang to help with local disaster rescue and relief efforts.
