Taiwan has played down the impact of Japan's earthquake on its economy, seeing only around a 0.2 percentage point hit to growth this year. And it says the island's technology exports will be able to recover quickly.

Japan takes about 6.5 percent of Taiwan's exports and accounts for about 20 percent of its imports, a large part of which are components for the island's high tech exporters. Computer maker Acer cut its PC sales forecast for the first quarter this week.

Some analysts suggested that raw material shortages in the wake of the quake were part of the reason and could affect other PC makers.
