Fears over radiation affect Japan economy

The continuing crisis has already had a significant impact on the local economy, particularly in the city of Fukushima.

 

Daylight is fading quickly in Fukushima.

Trains are still not running, meaning commuters are forced into long queues for buses in order to make it home at night.

Japan was once a paradise for those wishing to party all night, with some bars and restaurants staying open until 5 or 6 in the morning.

But now, after high levels of radiation was found consistently in the area around the Fukushima nuclear complex, an atmosphere of fear has pervaded the city and few people are keen to linger around.
