Over the past two days, 12 funerary items have been found inside the ancient tomb in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi province that dates back some two-thousand years, including what's described as a lacquer chest, and bamboo food containers. Now the experts are considering some adjustment to their original excavation plan.

Since Sunday morning, staff have began to spray preservative on the lacquer items every three hours.

In the tomb, archeologists are drawing sketches of the tomb passages.

The work is supposed to be carried out when the excavation comes to the end.

But as a special camera found out on Friday, beautifully preserved ancient lacquers and other items are hard to handle. So archeologists decided to temporarily close the tomb. And that changes everything.

Zhang Zhongli, Vice Director of Shaanxi Provincial Archeology Institute said "Though there is no digging going on in the tomb, this actually is the most important phase of our work. We are planning what to do next. "

The bamboo food containers discovered Saturday are very rare and fragile. which means more difficult preservation work.
