Cuba says it is considering making it easier for its citizens to travel abroad as tourists. This comes as the island nation is adopting a series of guidelines made at the 6th Communist Party National Congress last month.
Currently, Cubans have to apply for a travel permit, or the "white card", which costs about 130 US dollars. A visa issued by the country they plan to visit is also needed before they can obtain a travel permit. Although the guidelines do not specify the possibility of removing the "white card," this marks the first time an official mentioning of a policy which would ease restrictions if Cubans want to travel abroad.
