The Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs says rains and flooding in south China have left 25 people dead, and 25 more missing over the past five days.

More than 670,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes as of Friday. Floods, landslides and mudslides have pummeled several southwestern regions. Figures from the ministry showed that direct economic losses resulting from this round of rainstorms amounted to nearly 2 billion US dollars.

On Thursday, authorities upgraded its emergency response level to level 4, the highest level, and sent disaster relief teams to the worst-hit provinces. According to the National Meteorological Center, the rainstorms will continue to batter the country's southern and eastern regions over the weekend.
