Each person has an extraordinary story to share. The first comes from a 20 year old girl, who has been addicted to methamphetamines for seven years.
June 26th marks International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and this year's theme is teens and synthetic drugs. 20-year-old Meizi is now in a rehabilitation in Beijing and she mentions that she still yearns for family love. Wang Tao brings us a first-hand account of a reformed drug user.
Without the uniform, it would be hard to identify this 20 year old girl who's been taking drugs for seven years. It all started when a trustworthy friend persuaded her to try it just once. But the first try left her nothing but suffering.
Meizi said, "I was bombarded by dizziness for several days. I felt nothing but pain and could not eat for days. I suffered a lot from the drugs."
Despite the initial discomfort, Meizi soon became addicted to the drug and relied on it to make her sober and fresh. She found herself distanced from school but into a group of friends connected by drugs.
"To quit drugs meant no friends for me. I was easygoing and always wanting more friends. I'd rather take drugs and keep the friends, instead of taking no drugs and having no friends," said Meizi.
Starting from the age of 15, Meizi became a frequent visitor of recreational facilities. For her, drugs not only satisfied her physically, but also served as a bridge to her friends. Comfort from drugs had been the pillar of her life for years, but deep inside her heart, she still yearns for family care.
Meizi said, "My parents split when I was just one year old. That did not matter much to me. But I was really saddened because no one asked me how everything was going or how I was doing in school. No one cared, and no one showed me the way it should be."
Brought up by her grandmother, Meizi still looks for genuine family care. And sometimes she expresses this in her diary with questions about the real meaning of happiness. Meizi is on her way to getting over the trauma, but has indeed a long road ahead of her.
