Eight people are still missing after a mudslide in Sichuan Province.

The accident happened shortly after midnight, in the suburbs of Maoxian County in the Aba-Tibetan Qiang Autonomous Prefecture. The first two levels of a four-story dormitory building at a chemical plant were completely submerged. Dozens were stranded, and rescuers used safety ropes to reach trapped workers on the fourth floor.

So far 27 workers have been brought to safety. Eight people remain missing, but no bodies have yet been retrieved from the site. The local weather bureau issued an alarm for geological disasters late on Saturday after a period of heavy rainfall.
