Now let's turn to the fashion capital Paris and see what iconic designers Giorgio Armani, Elle Saab, and Jean Paul Gaultier have brought to the catwalk for their fall-winter 2011-12 haute couture collections.
Veteran Haute Couture designer Giorgio Armani paid homage to Japan in each of the looks he sent down his catwalk.
The show attracted an A-list crowd, which included actresses Katie Holmes and Cate Blanchett, but that did not distract from the dazzling kimono-inspired silken gowns and shimmering velvet pantsuits complete with colorful orchid detailing.
Elie Saab has the formula down pat: Take miles of flowing silks and tulle, whip the fabrics into flattering, nip-waisted silhouettes and cover them with a ton of shimmering sequins and beads and you've got yourself a red carpet winner.
The Lebanese designer didn't stray from the winning recipe that has helped him conquer red carpets worldwide. But then again, with gowns that look that good, why would he?
