Friends and fellow stars voiced their shock and sadness at the singer's death, while fans began to gather and lay flowers and candles at the police blockade outside her home in Camden, north London.

The road outside her house has been cordoned off and forensic officers were seen going in and out of the building.

Winehouse, who died at the age of 27, reminded music lovers of many talented musicians, including Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendix and Kurt Cobain, all of whom passed away at the same age. It seems that to join "Club 27" is the fateful destination for all self-destructive artists.
