Tropical storm Nock-Ten hits Southern China

Nock-Ten, the eighth tropical storm and the most powerful one to hit China this year, has made landfall over the southern island province of Hainan.

It was packing winds of some 30 meters per second when its landed in the city of Wenchang, Friday afternoon.

Authorities had evacuated more than 75-thousand people in advance , and more than 26-thousand fishing ships returned to port.

Meanwhile, local authorities are releasing water from major reservoirs as water levels rise. Nock-Ten is moving northwest at more than 15-kilometers per hour, and is expected to enter Beibu Bay on Saturday morning.
