In weightlifting, China's Kang Yue, the World Championship silver medalist, was favored to win the women's 69kg class. She swept 110 kilos in the snatch setting up a healthy cushion over her rivals.

In the clean and jerk, again she showed her prowess. A solid lift of 130 kilos gave her an unbeatable advantage and with a combined total of 240 kilos, the gold was hers.
