New Zealand’s incumbent Prime Minister John Key has won the national elections on Saturday. The results from the Electoral Commission show his party taking 48 percent of the vote, enough to give it 60 seats in the 120-seat parliament.

Another win. New Zealand’s incumbent Prime Minister John Key has declared victory in national elections. This paves the way for his return for a second term as the nation’s leader.

Speaking to his supporters in Auckland, Key said the campaign had been hard and thanked voters for backing him and his National Party.

John Key, New Zealand PM, said, "It’s been a hard campaign but it’s been a road that we’ve travelled with so many New Zealanders backing us. With the support of nearly half of the country in very difficult times for New Zealand, with lots of challenges in front of us. But with the goodwill of hundreds and hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders."

The Opposition Labour Party leader Phil Goff conceded defeat to Key on Saturday.
