Two giant pandas from Southwest China's Sichuan province are preparing for an eight-thousand kilometre move to a new home.

Tian Tian and Yang Guang will depart from the mountains to the Highlands on Sunday, for their new home in Edinburgh Zoo, in Scotland. These pandas will be the first in almost 20 years to live in Britain.

They will cost the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland more than just 600-thousand pounds, or 935-thousand US dollars a year for their loan.

The Zoo will have to stump up another 70-thousand pounds, or 109-thousand US dollars to feed Tian Tian and Yang Guang on imported bamboo.

The couple chomps through 18-thousand kilos of it per year. It’s hoped the change of scenery will encourage the pandas to start a family - bringing Britain its first home-born cub.
