With Christmas just a few weeks away, some folks in Chile have enjoyed a holiday season parade. The country's capital city of Santiago was overwhelmed with huge floats and hundreds of thousands of joyful spectators.

Over 30 floats, many of them representing beloved television cartoon characters, participated in the parade. An estimated 300,000 spectators came out to see the free event.

Among the highlights of the parade was a 17-meter long representation of Condorito, an extremely popular anthropomorphic condor that features in a daily comic strip. There were also classic characters such as Garfield, Odie, and Superman.

Some of the floats, such as a dragon, dived down towards the excited crowd.

Guillermo Arredonde, spectator, said, "They are fun. There is a snake that says he wants to eat me."

Javiera Santos, spectator, said, "All the characters from TV pass by, and also monsters that nobody knows about. Sometimes they come down like they are going to touch the people and everybody yells and it's fun."

Earlier on Sunday, Chilean police instructed motorists to avoid the area. Moreover, increased patrols have been carried out on the city's subway system to ensure the event of going safe and sound.
