The UN General Assembly has approved a budget of 5.15 billion U.S. dollars for the period of 2012-2013.

UN Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon welcomed the move as "doing more and better with less".

The budget made a 3.2-percent cut in the current financial plan, a move at a time of global financial austerity.
