We all know Santa Claus for making lists, driving a sleigh, and delivering gifts to nice children. We hardly ever see him trying to tackle the forces of nature, but he tried it on one of America's most dangerous rivers on Christmas Eve.

The soggy Santa finally needed to be rescued from the icy water by a USA border patrol crew.

It happened on the Niagara River between Buffalo New York and Ontario, Canada. That's just several miles away from the world-famous Niagara Falls. Weather conditions were not ideal for St. Nick, but he didn't give up trying.

The U-S Coast Guard said the man in the suit was really a Canadian named John Fulton, who tried to cross the river and seemed to lose control of his board in the dangerous current. Fulton's website says his holiday windsurfing attempt was planned to raise money for charity.
