On doorstep of the new year, folk artists have presented a performance of traditional Beijing folk customs to local residents at a performance park in the city.

The calls of folk artists, dressed as street vendors recreates the sights and sounds of old beijing. Their shouts advertise the sale of vegetables, cigarettes, and traditional Chinese snacks such as popsicles and candied fruits known as Bingtanghulu, carried by the vendors.

An audience member said, "This makes me remember being a little girl. And I think we should carry on these traditional folk customs."

At the performance, some folk artists also showed the art of sugar-figure blowing. In the past, sugar-figure blowers walked around lanes and streets and used their skills to entertain and inspire curiosity in children.

An audience member said, "I've never seen this before. This is awesome."

Nowadays, there aren't many chances to see these traditional folk customs. And this performance really gives us a rare opportunity to look back into the daily life of Old Beijing.
