China's Li Na is gathering momentum in Australia. She sailed into the quarterfinals of the Sydney International, and met Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

Li started fast in the first set and won it 6-2. Safarova forced the world number 5 into a tiebreaker in the second. Li is the defending champion at this tournament and was tough enough to win her way to a 7-6 second set victory. She will now meet either world number 2 Petra Kvitova or Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova.
