The annual exodus is now really picking up and trains carried nearly six million passengers on Friday. For those leaving from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, it's getting especially difficult to buy tickets if you're heading to Chengdu, Chongqing and Nanchang.
It's warned heavy rain in southern China may affect your travel plans, and in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, fog is even threatening air traffic. There have been no cancellations so far, but weather conditions should be monitored closely.
On the road, drivers are also advised to go slowly, due to poor visibility over the next 3 days. Turning to Chongqing, ferries travelling down the Yangtzi River are also affected by the fog. The local authorities there have warned vessels to ensure safe navigation.
