China and the US have marked the 40th anniversary of Richard Nixon's visit to China and of Shanghai Communiqué.

Vice President Xi Jinping and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger delivered speeches. Xi Jinping noted 40 years ago, the older generation of leaders of the two countries opened a new chapter in Sino-US relations. He said 40 years of unremitting efforts has built up the mutually respectful, beneficial and win-win partnership. Kissinger said last year's visit by President Hu Jintao opened a new stage in relations. He said both sides will continue to cooperate in expanding the basis for US-China relations.
