A group of 25 Chinese workers have returned to their cement factory after being held hostage on the Sinai Peninsula. |
The workers were escorted by Egyptian military forces and members of the Chinese embassy after their release on Wednesday. Embassy official, Ma Jianchun, has met North Sinai governor Abdel Wahab Mabrouk to thank the Egyptian government for its rescue efforts.
Mabrouk also visited the released workers and promised the government will ensure their safety. The workers were seized Tuesday, by hostage takers demanding the release of their relatives detained over suspected involvement in attacks in south Sinai.
