A nationwide survey has shown that 80% of single women in China believe only men who make more than 4000 yuan a month deserve to have a relationship with a woman, up more than 10 percent from the same question posed last year.
How do Chinese people feel about the results of this survey? Is Chinese society becoming more and more materialistic? Is this a sign that China's young people care more about money than romance? Or is simply a practical response to an increasingly competitive society?
Among these women, around 27% believe only men making over 10,000 yuan a month deserve to have a relationship.
Currently, the monthly income per capita in China is 1,752 yuan a month, or around 250 US dollars.
