China's vice FM arrives in Syria

China’s Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun, a special envoy of the Chinese government has arrived in the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Zhai Jun was met by Syrian Assistant Foreign Minister... Ahmad Ar-nous at the airport. Upon his arrival... Zhai told reporters that he will make contacts with Syrian leaders and various political factions... during his two-day stay in Damascus. He will also strive to "play a positive role"... and "make some contribution" to seeking a proper solution to the Syrian issue.

Ar-nous said... the Chinese envoy’s visit is of "great importance,"... and the two countries need to continue their political consultations. President Bashar al-Assad and Foreign Minister Walid Mu-al-em will meet Zhai Saturday. They are scheduled to explore ways to boost bilateral ties... and hold consultations on the Syrian situation... as well as discuss regional and international affairs.
