Visiting Chinese VP meets Turkish President

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has made a four-point proposal to further develop relations between China and Turkey during talks with Turkish President, Abdullah Gul.

Xi Jinping said China encourages high-level exchanges between the two countries and also supports an increase in Turkish imports and investment. China has also backed Turkey's active role in international and regional affairs.

After the talks, the two attended a signing ceremony on the economy and trade cooperation. Xi Jinping also held talks with Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek. He said mutual support on issues relating to the other's core interests is the cornerstone of Sino-Turkish strategic ties. China firmly supports Turkey in its endeavor on maintaining domestic political stability and economic growth.

The Turkish side also reiterated that Turkey adheres to the one-China policy and respects China's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

After this, Xi visited the mausoleum of the republic's founder, Mustafa Kemal and wrote an inscription. Xi Jinping also held talks with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan during which he praised Turkey's growing role in trying to resolve "hot issues" such as the Iranian nuclear dispute and conflicts in the Middle East.
