Two foreign journalists have been killed in the besieged Syrian city of Homs on Wednesday when goverment forces fired rockets at a house they were staying in. The French government has confirmed the names of the victims.

US-born journalist Marie Colvin (L) in a recent picture released by the Sunday Times, and freelance French photojournalist Remi Ochlik in an AFP picture taken in 2005.

They are Marie Colvin an American working for Britain's Sunday Times, and French photographer Remi Ochlik. At least two other foreign journalists have been wounded one in very serious condition.

Witnesses says rockets hit the house they were using as a media center in the Baba Amr district in Homs. Both were veteran war correspondents. Colvin lost an eye when she suffered a shrapnel wound while working in Sri Lanka in 2001.

Ochlik was born in France and first covered the conflict in Haiti at the age of 20. Most recently he photographed the violence in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya. Last week New York Times reporter Anthony Sha-did died of an asthma attack while trying to reach an opposition zone.
