This video image made from DRTV shows emergency vehicles arriving at a hospital after blasts rocked Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo Sunday March 4, 2012 after a weapons depot caught fire. |
The defence minister has urged calm in the capital.
The explosions shook houses in Brazzaville and echoed across the Congo River to Kinshasa, the capital of the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
Local reports say the blasts seem to have come from an arms depot near the banks of the Congo River that separates the two nations.
The six Chinese victims belonged to the Beijing Construction Engineering Group in the central African country, where about 140 Chinese workers of the company were at the construction site when the blasts went off.
According to an official with the Chinese embassy, the blast also left dozens of Chinese workers injured, some in serious condition.
