Art show brings a glimpse of Xinjiang

Today on Culture Express, we're taking a peak at whats on display. The distinctive paintings of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have a long history and are often regarded as a gem in the art world.

A total of 135 paintings, selected from 21-hundred works by 400 artists, are on display. These works represent almost every aspect of Xinjiang, including its sweeping landscapes.

Since the reform and the opening up of China, the region's art culture has undergone something of a renaissance.

Artists of the Uygur ethnic minority group are make full use of the ancient traditions and cultures of Xinjiang, and have become an important force in the Chinese art world.

The exhibition, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, will come to an end on March 12th.
