Beijing gears up for major arts festival

China's capital city is gearing up for "The 12th Meet In Beijing Arts Festival". A press conference on Tuesday revealed a little of what's in store.

The festival has invited more than 60 art troupes from all over the world to the month-long culture feast. 



Jointly organised by various cultural sections of the government, the event is the largest spring cultural event in Asia. This year, working under the theme "Romantic Spring", the festival has invited more than 60 art troupes from all over the world to the month-long culture feast.

The opening ceremony is set to take place on April 28th and will see the classic "Swan Lake" reinterpretted by the Cuba National Ballet. The following days will see performances in music, dance, and opera, along with a host of exhibitions.

The closing ceremony falls on May 29th which coincides with the 60th anniversary of Beijing People's Art Theatre. To mark the day, a repertoire play "Cai Wenji" will be brought on stage by most renowned Chinese stage actors.

In the past decade, 30 thousand performers from more than one hundred countries and regions have participated in the festival.
