As the temperature rises again, the Hegu region in Ili Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was inundated by water from melting snow, leaving several bridges damaged.

Jiligelang bridge has seen constant flooding over the last three months which has undermined the structure's foundations. The main body has been left seriously cracked due to shifts in the level of the riverbed.

The Jiligelang Bridge is an important part of National Highway 218 and local authorities have dispatched maintenance crews to begin repair work.

Hegu region has seen nearly 20 floods this year, leading to a direct economic loss of 13.9 million yuan.

At present the transportation and highway departments are seeking to bolster flood protection in the area to avoid further losses.
