March 28th marks the 4th Serfs Emancipation Day in China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

Tibet holds a flag-raising ceremony and various activities to mark the day when, 53 years ago, Tibet abolished the feudal serf system. Over that time, with the efforts of the Communist Party of China and the support of the Chinese people, Tibet's productivity has improved and it has achieved comprehensive social and economic development.

People of all ethnic groups are now enjoying the benefits of reform and the basic rights under the Constitution.

In 2011, Tibet's GDP reached more than 60 billion yuan, nearly 94 times that of 1959. Almost all, more than 99% college graduates are employed.

Tibet holds a flag-raising ceremony and various activities to mark 4th Serfs Emancipation Day, March 28th.

Students also enjoy free compulsory education. More than 1.8 million people have basic insurance and their life expectancy has risen to 67.

A retired employee said, "This is serfs emancipation day. Every herdsman and farmer in Tibet are commemorating this important day. We have become masters of society with the help of the liberation army."

A student said, "Compared with the past, we are living a happier life. Unlike the old society, us girls can go to school and have our own lives and be our own masters. We are using multimedia to learn, and we can learn more knowledge."
