All 28 Chinese aboard a cargo ship hijacked by pirates in the sea of Oman have been safely rescued. The Chinese embassy in Iran released the news on Friday.

According to the Chinese Embassy, the ship was commandeered near the Iranian port of Chabahar on Friday morning.

After the incident happened, the Chinese ambassador to Iran, Yu Hongyang, demanded that Iran make the safety of the hijacked crew members a priority and to attempt a rescue.

The vessel belongs to a company based in the Eastern Chinese city of Nanjing. It had departed from Shanghai, stopped to unload goods in Singapore, and was on its way to Imam Khomeini port in southwestern Iran.
