Badminton Asia Championships to open in Qingdao

In Qingdao, the Badminton Asia Championships will open on Tuesday. Top-level players in Asia will strive to qualify for the London Olympics with the points added from the tournament.

In Qingdao, the Badminton Asia Championships will open on Tuesday. Top-level players in Asia will strive to qualify for the London Olympics with the points added from the tournament. 

The diamond-shaped indoor stadium will be the site for the matches. Workers finished putting all the equipment into place for the regional sporting showcase. 300 players will take part in the championships, and 150 journalists will cover the event in the coastal city. China will feature former Olympic champion Lin Dan in the men's singles, along with several other top-ranked players in five events.

The Organizing Committee recruited more than 200 volunteers who will help manage things, including accommodation and communications. They will play a big role to ensure the championships run smoothly. Organizing Committee deputy chief Yang Min says marketing is one key to making the tournament a success.

Yang Min, Deputy-Chief of Asian Badminton Championships Organizing Committee, said, "We'll search for a way to successfully market the tournament. As of now, most of the tickets have been sold."
