The tragedy was caused by careless driving. The driver of a school bus had her leg pressed against the stick shift while she was chatting to passengers and lost control of the bus. The bus hit two vehicles stopped near the school gate before running over Zhang Lili.

Zhang Lili was sent to the central hospital of Jiamusi. Her injury was too severe and doctors had to amputate her legs. Her vital signs are still not stable.

Song Fengli, mother of Zhang Lili's student, said, “My kids and I can not accept this fact. All students in her class cried. She was very kind to them"

Zhang Lili has been transferred to the biggest general hospital in Harbin, capital city of Heilongjiang province. The Ministry of Health has dispatched a medical team of five experts to give her the best possible treatment.
