The Ministry of Public Security has said that the introduction of the new E-passport will help improve the security of Chinese passports and effectively prevent counterfeiting.

The new passports look similar to old ones, but have an electronic chip inside with personal information. Besides name and date of birth, the chipped passport will now contain the holder's finger prints and signature. Paper photos will also be replaced by digital ones. In addition to increased security, the E-passport is seen as an important step toward automatic processing at customs points.
