Three Chinese fishing boats and their crew held captive in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for eleven days are reported to be safe. That's according to information received by the Chinese embassy in the DPRK.

The embassy's counsellor says diplomats are working to resolve the situation.

Jiang Yaxian, Counsellor of Chinese Embassy to DPRK, said, "The DPRK side says the detained Chinese fishing crew are now in sound health condition with sufficient food and healthcare, and some of the detained vessels and crew have already been sent back to China. Ambassador Liu Hongcai and other Chinese diplomats have been working actively on the detention through negotiation and close contact, to fully ensure the Chinese crew's personal safety and their legitimate rights and interests."
