China discusses environmental protection

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June. The day aims to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environmental action. China's State Council Information Office held a press conference today.

Wu Xiaoqing, Vice Minister of Ministry of Environmental Protection, is outlining the country's environmental protection policies. He is addressing issues including the reduction of carbon emissions, water pollution, air pollution, marine pollution and the damaging effects of heavy metals.

He is also highlighting the achievements China has made in promoting its green economy.

The theme for the 40th World Environment Day aims to encourage public participation in the adoption of a new growth model that has a low carbon footprint and uses resources efficiently.
