On June 6th, a major portal website in China asked the public "do you think the age of retirement should be raised?" The results were frankly, very one-sided.

Over 2.3 million people have taken part in the poll since then. Among them, over 2.2 million responded negatively to the idea. That accounts for almost 95 percent.

The main reason given was that it affects the employment and life of the younger generation. Only 2 percent said yes to the proposal, saying that China's life expectancy has risen, and the country's pension fund gap is indeed wider than ever. Another 1.7 percent was neutral. The age structure of the respondents is unknown.
