An Indian naval fleet departed Shanghai on Monday. This ends India's first naval visit to China in six years.

During their stay the Indian crew visited the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center. It also put on a number of marching band performances. The two sides also held a friendly soccer match and receptions aimed at increasing understanding and exchanges. The two countries will also soon be holding a joint maritime drill.

The four frontline warships on the visit included a destroyer, frigate, corvette and fleet tanker accompanied by 1,400 sailors. The fleet is led by Vice Admiral Anil Chopra. He is chief of the Indian navy's Eastern command. Before its arrival in China, the fleet has made stops in Japan, Singapore and South Korea.
