A 5.7 magnitude earthquake has jolted southwest China, leaving two people dead and 100 others injured.

According to the China Earthquake Network Center, the quake struck the border of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces just before 4pm local time Sunday, followed by a 3.3-magnitude aftershock two minutes later. The casualties were reported in Ning-lang County in Yunnan province, and neighboring Yan-yuan County in Sichuan.

The quake was felt strongly in Ning-lang. Local authorities have sent 300 tents, 500 quilts and 500 padded clothes to the county. Telecommunication networks there have also been cut. The Yunnan Provincial Seismological Bureau has sent a team to the area to calculate losses. Meanwhile, the Yan-yuan County government in Sichuan reports many rural houses collapsed.
