Spain has won the first semi-final of the Euro 2012 on penalties after the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Real Madrid's midfield maestro Xabi Alonso missed the first penalty for Spain. The Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas then pulled off a confident save to keep the scores even. Iniesta scored Spains second attempt to put his side ahead.

The teams then traded penalties until the fourth round when Portugese defender, Bruno Alves, struck the bar. Barcelona's Fabregas stepped up to score the winning penalty to take the tie 4:2 for Spain. The win puts the Spanish into the final where they will meet the winner of tomorrow's game between Italy and Germany.
