Meteorological authorities in Taiwan region have issued a warning for torrential rain and strong winds that are approaching the island. Typhoon Tembin, the fifth massive storm to hit the area in 3 weeks, is gaining strength while Bolaven is expected to sweep the island over the weekend.

Typhoon Tembin is heading for the east coast of Taiwan with winds of around 145 kilometers per hour after battering parts of the Philippines. Weather authorities on the island are warning residents to be ready.

Wu Wanhua, Taiwan Meteorological Bureau, said, "It's still a middle scale typhoon and it will become much stronger. It's expected to impact us directly."

Tembin is expected to hit the island's south before moving northward. A second typhoon, Bolaven, also currently a category 3 storm, is likely to affect Taiwan on the weekend, passing the island's north coast.

Wu Wanhua also said, "Tembin is likely to make landfall on Thursday or Friday. Both of the typhoons will hit our region."

The typhoon has brought big waves and strong winds to the east coast of Taiwan. Some passenger ships have suspended service due to the bad weather. Earlier this month rain from typhoon Saola triggered landslides and flooding that killed five people in the region, shutting markets and businesses and forcing the evacuation of 1,000 people.
