China launches 1st series books on PLA

China has released the first series of books on the People's Liberation Army, at the Beijing International Book Fair. These come in six UN official languages. And introduce the overall development of the Chinese military to the international community.

With the development of Chinese involvement in international military, China’s defense policies and military development are moving into the center of global attention. Now these books are giving international readers access to more information, including the recent development of PLA’s weapons and international cooperation with foreign armed forces. Lu Xiaoping is one of the writers.

Prof. Lu Xiaoping, Airforce Command College, said, “The previous books on Chinese military are much academic-focused. We want to make some changes by adding many valuable pictures and stories. The interesting plot is more accessible for those international readers who don’t know much about Chinese armed forces.”

The first series contain three books, on The PLA, its Navy and Air Force. There are different understandings of the modernization of Chinese armed forces on the backdrop of the global society, and the Ministry of National Defense wants to give a vivid and accurate version.

Geng Yansheng, Spokesman, Ministry Of National Defense, said, “The series will offer a complete and systematic introduction to Chinese national defence and military development. This will let readers understand that China firmly stick to peaceful development and follows the defensive national defense policy.”

There are in total three series. Chinese Naval escorts in Aden Gulf, Chinese peacekeepers overseas and international security cooperation are coming next. All will be published in the 6 UN languages, and are planned for release before the end of 2014.

From hundreds of valuable pictures, interesting stories and details, both chinese and international readers can get better understanding of the development of the PLA from multiple angles. The authors say the series are designed to give an official transparent account of China’s military role in maintaining regional stability and world peace.
