A rare creature snuck into a residential home one night in Yibin, in Southwest China’s Sichuan province. Residents began taking care of the furry mammal, but it was a while before I found just what species it was.

The big-eyed animal with brown fur was found in Zeng Zuobing’s 5th floor apartment on Thursday evening. Zeng thinks the creature must have snuck in through the window. Confused about its species, Zeng and his family tried many things to take care of the little animal.

Zeng said, "We gave it corn and meat, but it didn’t eat anything but peanuts. It crawled very slowly, just like a monkey. It seemed very mild. As long as you don’t try to annoy it, it won’t bite."

Zeng thought of freeing the creature, but was worried it wouldn’t survive in the wild, so he called the local TV Station for help identifying its species. They then took it to the forestry department, and finally got some answers.

Peng Hao, staff of Yibin Forestry Department, said, "It is called slow loris. It is a first-class national protected wild animal which can only be found in Yunnan and Guangxi provinces. This species is very rare."

Not found in Sichuan province, staff at the forestry departmetn wondered if someone brought it into the province as a pet. According to Wildlife Protection law, it is illegal to buy and sell wild animals. The slow loris is a nationally protected animal, so the local forestry department is waiting for instructions on what to do with the creature next. For now, this little guy has been sent to a zoo to be cared after.
