China has urged the US to remain neutral and not interfere in the South China Sea disputes.

Hong Lei, Spokesman, Chinese Foreign Ministry said, "We have noticed the United States has said many times that it will not hold a position on the South China Sea issue. We hope they will keep their promises and do more that is conducive to regional peace and stability, not the opposite. The South China Sea issue is about territorial disputes over the Nansha Islands, and waters in the South China Sea. As any other country in the world, China has a responsibility to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity."
