US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has arrived in Beijing, starting his first visit to China as the Pentagon chief.
During his four-day stay, Panetta will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Liang Guanglie, who visited the Pentagon back in May. Panetta is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Armed Force Engineering Institute in Beijing, and visit east China’s coastal city of Qingdao, the home of the Chinese navy’s North Sea fleet.
The Ministry of Defense said the visit is part of 2012’s bilateral military-to-military exchanges. Panetta completed a two-day visit to Japan on Monday and will head to New Zealand after his time in China.
