The last chance of a Chinese playing in the NBA evaporated on Sunday after Yi Jianlian announced his return to the CBA next season. The 25-year-old will play for his former club Guangdong Southern Tigers.
During an exclusive interview with CCTV on Sunday night, Yi said he will play a full season for Guangdong and try to win back the national title taken by Beijing last season.
First of all, I want to play more games to maintain my form. Although there had been other teams that contacted me, most of them already have a complete roster. So I decided to return to Guangdong and play a whole season. Guangdong is still a very strong team.
They dominated the last regular season and met little resistance until the finals. Beijing staged some excellent performance to win the championship. Guangdong has to improve in many areas."
